What to expect when hiring a Home Staging Professional


Qualified Staging Professionals walk through your home room by room and consciously gauge its impact on the buyers.
What will they see, hear, and smell? How will it make them feel? What adjustments are needed in each room so that the experience is always pleasant, inviting, and defines the room and its function. What can they envision, hopefully seeing themselves living there?

A Staging professional is there to help you market the product you are selling… your house! They should be ‘honestly’ assessing your house and the perception it will give potential buyers. How you and your family have lived and enjoyed your surroundings has to be put aside to allow your house to make an emotional connection to the buyers. If the house has too much of your personality in it, the buyer will feel like they are visiting you…not buying the property.

You do not need wait till you have your house on the market to hire a quality stager. Quite the contrary, you should be considering hiring the stager long before you even contact the real estate agents to have them price your property. A well staged home will impress the agent and they will assess the value on the condition and appeal as well as the location and square footage.

How can you be sure you have a quality stager?

Most professional home stagers have had some formal training in redesign or home staging. Many quality stagers will also have a website where you can get an example of there work. The site should before and after pictures of staged homes. Many professionals will list the organization they are affiliated with and even the training they received.

The psychology of selling you house is quite different than creating a home for your family. Make sure the person you have working for you understands the stress you may be dealing with in the anticipation of moving.
