Magazines are great for this exercise
Tear out the pictures you like. They do not all have to be of rooms. Could be a color you like in an ad.
Make a little note on the side about the feature you like.

Put these pictures in a folder. (Rest assured that you will not like everything!)
After doing this a few times, you’ll start to see a pattern emerge and there will be consistency in the ‘look’ from one picture to another.
As you go through the magazines, you’ll discover that you’re becoming more informed and familiar with design looks and styles. (Whether they have names yet or not!)
Sometimes, you may not like the entire room but there’s one detail, like a specific piece of furniture or accessory. Maybe it’s the way things are arranged, that captures your attention.
Don’t neglect to look at those ads, too; they contain as much information about style as the feature pages.
You will be surprised how much more confident you will fell about you design choices.
Always keep in you mind this is your home not the magazine and if you don’t love it don’t use it!!
